the sanguine orchestration system
my band, the sanguine orchestration system, is booking a new england tour and we are looking for a show in the western mass area.
the dat for western mass is may 12th. if anyone is in a band or sets up shows or something maybe we could hook something up. im totally willing to trade shows and stuff. we could hang out whatever. its a business of friends.

so the sanguine orchestration system is a slowcore/ indie rock band. we draw on influences such as elliot smith, bright eyes, tigersaw, jason anderson ect..... we will be touring as a duo (drums and guitar/vocals) with this lineup we could totally play in a living room, basement, dorm, coffeeshop, bathroom whatever. we are a diy deal. we'll do whatever.

you can listen to some stuff and read some press or whatev at www.thesanguineorchestrationsystem.com

21+ / $7 / 9 pm

with THURSTON MOORE ACTION TRIO, the sightings, the fucking sparklies

this will be great. it costs a little more, and it starts a little earlier, but then again, look who's playing.

i'll skip the thurston/sy rocks! introduction. suffice it to say that most everything i've heard him do, with his 'main gig' or not, has been really great. so this should be no exception.

the sightings are a new york band in a noisy no-wave vein, or so i'm told.

the sparklies are a local electronic/song-oriented collective somewhat similar to arab strap or early tricky.

the order is sparklies (9 pm), sightings (10 pm), mobius band (11 pm), action trio (midnight).
in other news...

Date : Wed, 05 Mar 2003 16:38:41 -0500

Hello everyone

First off, we'd like to thank everyone who watched us play, took a CD, and supported us in the past few weeks. We played to new crowds in each town, and had a great time in each town.

Now we'd like to remind you of a big show in Boston that we are playing tomorrow, Thursday, night. We are playing the Interpol Afterparty/Mark V Birthday bash at Bills Bar. The show is 18+ and doors are at 9pm. Also playing are the Exit (Some Records) and the Static Age (from Vermont). The Bills Bar site hasnt posted the price yet, but we're assuming its going to be around $8. The show is half off with a ticket stub from the Interpol show, so if you dont want your night to end early when Interpol is over, swing by Bills.

The other shows we have lined up so far are as follows:
Saturday, March 22nd @ TisWas (Don Hills) NYC, NY w/ I am the World Trade Center, Baby, and Mistle Thrush. 21+ $10, we're on at precisely 10:15.
Monday, March 31st @ Charlies Kitchen, Cambridge, MA. More info soon.

Thats it for now. See you at Bills Bar tomorrow night.

LOL Sarah, if you weren't a bit flakey you wouldn't love rocknroll so much, trust me I have some personal knowledge of how that works! So it all works out for the best in the end! So now, on that topic--do you have the dates of the shows you reviewed? The reason we hadn't done anything with the Holics review was Kevin thinks that might have been a long time ago, is he right? We are trying to keep things kind of timely. I know that Flywheel show with Minus a Map was very recent I
remember seeing that on the L2R Calendar. You know Eric C? You weren't a Knuckle Sandwich fan were ya? That was always one of my absolutely favorite bands. Look at all the other bands spawning out from members of the Knucks (Minus a Map, New Harmful, Warren Commission)

The Mobius Band
Surgeon's Photograph

@the Eagles Club
January 25th, 2003/10:00PM/21+/$5

Missed most of Funstrength's set all in the name of a gin & tonic. Surgeon's is about to start! They are sounding good so far. This is my 2nd time seeing them I think. Good times. They have a pretty good crowd here... for a JP Diddy show. I mean they can really rake in the rukus sometimes. The crowd is all just standing around staring. With the exception of bouncy Jimmy SuperHo. Richard is wearing socks, but shoeless. The other guitarist is wearing emotional navy blue Sauconys. Half of the 4 piece wears glasses. I think I may have just heard the first vocal. Anhd now they have only 2 songs left. They are promoting their CD and shirts for sale and saying "long live capitalism". They're new CD's have handmade cases. Beautiful looking. They're shirts also rock because they say "I Hate Northampton" on them. The second to last song rock-ED. One more to go...Red drums red guitar...Ok they're done. They start slow but by the time they're set is over you don't want them to stop. Mobius Band is up next. They think "it's awesome" that I made 140 stickers of their flyer...John Peter wants me to make I hate John Peter stickers for him. I guess they're not so funny now that he likes them. But anyway Mobius Band is kickin some ass. I think they've improved a bunch since I first started seeing them at Fire & Water. Blah blah blah. Sorry about the rest of the review but I got lazy. Too bad!

Keep on rockin,
Sarah Lindsey

The Holics @ Pearl St
February 1st, 2003/10PM/All Ages/$10

I knew the Holics were playing at Pearl St and I stopped in to see what time they were going on. I got there within 10 minutes before they went on. They were great and the crowd loved them. This was my first time seeing them and I knew it would be fun. They have great stage presense. Highlights would include Jay Ponti getting on getting on the shoulders of Jimmy from SuperHo while still playing his guitar. Jimmy walked around a bit on the floor then put Jay back down. Their songs were just plain rock. Simple and easy to dance to. But definitely not boring. In the end all the energy of the set was totally blown up into Jay and Dave trashing Dave's drumset. So... I only came for them and left promptly afterwards to get to a birthday party. Go see the Holics before they get too big!

p.s. trashing your drums like dave and kurt is not cool...i later learned that j ponti broke his tailbone jumping into those drums. it's all punk rock til somebody loses an ass.

everything that can go wrong, has gone wrong - which is why, among other
things, the bottle rocket site is currently down... but before i start
spinning as DJ Job, The Show - as they say - Must Go On!

Bottle DEATHROCKet - THIS TUESDAY - March 4th

Addam's out of town again, and Lady B was distracted until it was too late
to stop the mayhem, so it's going to be All Deathrock, All Night.

I didn't, however, manage the paperwork for the rights say that it would
also be All Singing, All Dancing... but i'm trying to work in all the
'All's i can here.

In any case, NYC's premier deathrock DJ Charlie The Slut will be battling
the rotten apple's legal system to make it here to spin with Matthew
Griffin, who will be making use of bought, begged, borrowed and/or stolen
turntables to display the benefits of a lifelong vinyl fetish.

Minus A Map

@ the flywheel/sunday february 16th/$5

Minus a Map played first because they have another show to play tonight in Boston. Even though I've known these guys for years this was my first time seeing them. Scott West's bass drum wouldn't stay back so they asked me to sit in front of it. I couldn't exactly hear Eric's lyrics. Except for the song Keys/AC. Only because I know of that song from their demo CD. The CD, I like a lot. They will be playing the Eagles Club on March 15th with Small Axe.

Since the band Paris didn't even bother to come out and watch Minus A Map I decided to boycott their set.

The Cignal is on now and they're great. There's a girl drummer (her name is Dana), Ryan on keyboards, Nick on bass. Dan the singer was wearing a stooges tee-shirt. I can't remember the guitar player's name. ooops. Good harmony, They were a lot of fun and I'd definitely like to see them again.

After the Cignal I went outside for a quick smoke break and came back right in time for the fourth band, The National Blue. I don't say this often but this band was amazing. Mostly instumental with few but powerfull lyrics. They're a three piece. Rueben Bettsak does vocals and guitar, Adam Kriney on drums, and Dave Altman on bass. I guess they have been playing together about 5 and a half years and you can tell. I was quite impressed and wouldn't even bother to compare them to any other band. They gave me a copy of their CD and the sticker on the front says it's a mix of prog-rock, metal, jazz/dum, poly-rhythms, synthesizers, and electronics. I know it's a mouthfull but I couldn't have said it any better. I wouldn't have known to describe them as anything but good. So hunt these boys down and go to one of their shows!

Until next time,
Sarah Lindsey
